Leysieffer Baumkuchen is made in the traditional way. It is the ultimate recipe for all pastry cooks. This cake predominantly consists of butter, eggs, sugar, vanilla, salt and flour, enhanced with a shot of Cointreau.
The Baumkuchen batter is carefully applied in thin layers onto a roller that is slowly turned over an open gas flame.
Layer upon layer - simply excellent!
After one layer has been thoroughly baked, the roller is dipped into the batter again and the next layer is baked. This process requires loads of experience and skill, not forgetting patience. Even the batter recipe is subject to change, depending on the weather conditions, the temperature and the humidity. This baking process produces many layers that resemble the rings of trees. This gives the Baumkuchen its name, “Tree Cake”. Since no two trees are alike, our Baumkuchen vary as well. Every cake is a handmade “one of a kind” which is finally coated with our dark Leysieffer chocolate glaze with a chocolate seal on top.
